ADAPT is a nationwide, mixed-method study of pedagogical practices in the Biology classroom. ADAPT’s mission is to gain better insight into the teaching practices of professors in introductory Biology courses. To this end, we recruited over 900 biology professors from across the nation and asked for their opinions and expertise in this formative academic domain in three phases (detailed below). This recruitment resulted in the development of a contact list of over 5,000 biology professors along with their emails and institution from publicly-available websites. Participants were drawn from 4-year schools offering an undergraduate degree in biology and included a broad spectrum of public, private, small, medium, and large campuses all across the U.S. In addition to gathering faculty opinions via survey instruments, we also requested that faculty send us a recent copy of a syllabus they used in an Introductory Biology class. This resulted in a collection of 150 syllabi from faculty all across the country and includes syllabi from academic years 2019-2020.

It is our team’s mission to promote collaborative science and we have made our Biology Faculty List and Faculty Syllabus Documents available to fellow researchers with prior approval from the Principal Investigators.

If you are a researcher interested in utilizing this contact database, please complete this contact list use agreement form. If you are interested in using the syllabus documents (which have been scrubbed of all identifying information), please complete this data use agreement form. The Principal Investigator Dr. Dustin Thoman will reach out to you with approval and the digital copies.
